Atyrau Journal - 30th Anniversary of Tengizchevroil, LLP

Tengizchevroil (TCO) is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this April. The Tengiz oil field was discovered by Soviet geologists in 1979. It is near the Caspian Sea. It was named Tengiz, meaning “sea,” and it is one of the largest producing oil fields in the world. After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, the new Republic of Kazakhstan partnered with Chevron, Mobil (now ExxonMobil), KMG (the Kazakh national company), and Lukoil (a Russian company) to develop the field. Over three decades since April 1993, TCO, as the largest taxpayer in Kazakhstan, has contributed billions of dollars into the Kazakh economy, both in tax revenues and royalties paid to the Government. It also provides fun opportunities for people like us!

Of course, the anniversary came with hours of speeches and a long dinner - 12.5 hours! Lots of recognition and awards were given by both the government ministries and TCO. The most exciting were the TCO 30-year service awards. The gala event included entertainment by some off the best and most famous talent in Kazakhstan.
